The purpose of the Foundation is to be an enhancement to the ministry of the church by establishing stewardship opportunities additional to the general operation of BLC.

During the past several years the Foundation has distributed at least $50,000 annually.

While priority has been given to students and organizations who are connected to BLC church and its congregation community, those not directly connected are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you’d like to give to the Foundation, please send an email.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to students attending Lutheran colleges, as well as to many “sister” colleges who are in Full Communion with the ELCA. The Foundation is also able to provide funds to cover the college/seminary application fee.

Annual Report

Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation

June, 2024

The Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation enhances the ministry of Bethany Lutheran Church by establishing stewardship opportunities additional to the general operation of the church. The Foundation gives scholarships and grants annually which enrich or uplift the spiritual life of the church, provide a worthy addition or improvement to the church facility or give needed assistance to a worthy individual, family or Christian enterprise.

The Foundation expends up to 5% of the average fair market value of the net assets in the unrestricted funds as determined by the eight quarters ending September 30. In 2023, we awarded $3,250 in scholarships to college and seminary students. In 2023, we awarded $49,378 in grants to organizations in our church and community.

As of May 31, 2024, the Foundation had $1,111,689 in the endowment. The Foundation will have $53,550 to expend in 2024 for scholarships and grants, based on the formula contained in the Articles of Incorporation. The Foundation welcomes students to apply for scholarships for both college and seminary if they are attending ELCA schools or religious institutions from a denomination in full communion with the ELCA. The Foundation grant cycle considers grant requests submitted by the September 15 deadline. If any member is an advocate for a non-profit organization that could be served by a grant from the Foundation, please encourage your non-profit to apply for funds.
